Tonight, Evan's devotional was "Being a fisher of men". It asked who in his family Evan could tell about Jesus. After a brief refresher on why we need to tell people about Jesus, I added something to the effect of "So if we have people in our family who don't have Jesus in their heart and they die, where would they go?" Here's how the rest of the conversation went:
Evan-"Hell"
Me-"Right, and what about you?"
E-"Heaven" (pause, followed by) "and then I would never see them again"
Me- "Right. That's another reason we need to tell them about Jesus, so we can be with them in Heaven"
E-"Mommy, can you look and see Hell from up in Heaven?"
Me-"No, you can't"
E-"Oh." (long pause) "Mommy, I don't know how God can live in Heaven because it is in space and people can't breath in outer space" (apparently he's been learning in science this week about stars and space)
Me-"Well, it might be too hard for you to understand right now. Heaven really isn't in outer space, it is beyond outer space. " After a long pause, "It's kinda hard to explain to you right now exactly where Heaven is, bub. I'm sorry, when you're bigger you'll understand better"
Evan-"Hey, mommy, you could type Heaven in the internet and it'll show you a map to where it is and maybe what it looks like, too, and maybe God in person, too. Can we do that tomorrow?"
How do you respond to that?? I'm searching for the right words to say, and all I can think of is:
Me-"Maybe we can, bub, we'll see"

I'm so not prepared for that phase of life just yet...
Wow - such good questions, but I'm with you....not sure how I'd anser that.
I know you posted this a while back and maybe Evan is no longer questioning, but there's a book called “Heaven for Kids” by Randy Alcorn that might help. I don't know anything about the author, but the book sounded pretty good and it might be worth checking out.
