My T-Shirt Quilt is Finished!!

 

A couple of years ago, my parents came across a box of old t-shirts of mine and asked me what I wanted to do with them.  Most of them had some sort of sentimental value to me, so I hated to get rid of them, but what on earth was I going to do with a whole box of shirts??? 

That’s when I remembered seeing this post in which a friend of mine was making a t-shirt quilt with a bunch of her old college shirts. I asked my Mamaw Judy if she would help me make one of my own  and, of course, she said yes. 

Unfortunately, life got in the way and my t-shirt quilt was put on the back burner, and almost forgotten about, until about a year ago when my talented sis-in-law was making one.

That’s when I decided that my shirts had been sitting in that box in my closet for way too long.  I called mamaw up and asked if she’d still want to help.  Soon after, we begin our t-shirt quilt journey.

We followed this tutorial (written by my sis-in-law.  Thanks for sharing Tereza!!)

So, without further ado, here is our finished project!

It’s not the greatest picture, but it is way to big for me to get a great picture.  As you can see, it totally covers my queen-size bed! 

I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love this quilt!!!  The memories from each shirt on it, added to that the fact that mamaw and I got to spend time together making it, makes it absolutely perfect!!

More Crafts!! Diaper baby #3 & Mother’s Day Gifts

I was so excited about my Mother’s Day projects, I couldn’t wait to give them to my mom and grandma!!  Why keep them all to myself when they could be enjoying them for the next two weeks?!  If you like these, you can make your own by following the tutorial here.  They are so simple, I promise, anyone can make them!

Belle of Louisville

To celebrate Derby, Evan's class is having different activities throughout the week. Today was the Run for the Rose' (a relay with kool-aid), tomorrow is the Stick Horse race, and Thursday is a parade down the hallway. The students made their stick horses in school, but making a "float" for the parade was an at-home project. The float had to be made out of a rectangle box and have a derby theme. Evan and I had a lot of fun making our float. We chose to make a Belle of Louisville float. Here is our creation...





Evan cut out faces of people "looking at him"-so they'd be looking out the windows. You can click the pictures to make them bigger so you can see the faces.


I can't wait to go to his school Thursday and see him carry it down the hallway during the parade!

Fun with Pipe Cleaners

After having wreaked havoc the last time I tried to do crafts with the kids, I decided that we would be on the safe side this time...nothing to do with microwaves or ovens allowed!

Crafts & Chaos

So, I got this great idea from one of the blogs I follow, Flip Flops and Applesauce, to make some clay-dough type crafts with the kids. View her recipe and pictures here.

That being said, here's the Rice version. Stay with me now, it's kinda long, but well worth it!

I microwaved each plate for 2 minutes, decided they weren't ready yet, and did another minute each, and then another minute each (total of 4 minutes).

After they had cooled off, I let the kiddos each pick a paint color and start painting.

Evan opted for pink

Gracie, since Evan stole the pink, chose red

(they had decided that they couldn't have the same color stars)

Now for the fun part of the story.

While they were painting I decided to make a couple of stars with the leftover dough for myself.

As I was making my stars, I noticed that something was stinking up the kitchen. Being the great detective I am, I figured out that my sweet little daughter, who refuses to use the potty, had done a #2 in her pull-up.
Before changing her, I placed the 2 stars I had made on a plate, stuck it in the microwave and hit 4 (for 4 minutes, remember how it took 4 minutes total for the first two batches?), so they could cook while I changed her diaper.

Sooo....before actually getting the chance to complete the changing process, I smelled yet another terrible smell. My thought process-"What is that? Smells AWFUL. Smells like, like, OH NO! Smoke!!!" I hopped up off the floor, ran into the kitchen, which was quickly filling with smoke, and over to the microwave. I opened the door, expecting it to be filled with fire. Thank God there was only more smoke. Oh, and two burnt clay-dough stars, and a melted plate.

Being the smart cookie that I am, I had put my two stars on a plastic plate.

And now for the zoomed out version:

Yes, it is sitting on my deck in the snow...where else was I going to put a melted, smoking, burning plate???

Good one, huh? Sometimes I wonder where my brain went...

Diaper Baby and Christmas Trees!

Diaper Baby-I am so proud of myself! I made a diaper baby! Kinda like a diaper cake, but a baby! It actually took me a lot longer than I thought it would-it wasn't too awful hard, but harder than the directions made it sound! Anyway, here's my final project...his name is Grinch.

Christmas Trees-Yes, trees with an "s"! We put up our Christmas tree a little bit early this year. Last Sunday we arrived home and our next door neighbors had decorated their house already. Evan was so excited and kept saying "Mommy, it's so beautiful" and then asked if we could put ours up. Being that we didn't have plans for that evening, I caved. You would've too if you'd been there to witness his reaction to seeing the neighbor's house! So, two weeks early, up went the tree and on went the lights and ornaments!

AND since that was so fun last Sunday, we decided to do it again yesterday! Last night we went to my parent's house to help them put up their tree. Here are a couple of pictures from the putting up of the tree at Grammy and Papaw Phil's house!
